On Writing
By Raymond Carver
“Ambition and a little luck are good things for a writer to have going for him. Too much ambition and bad luck, or no luck at all, can be killing. There has to be talent.”
“Some writers have a bunch of talent; I don’t know any writers who are without it. But a unique and exact way of looking at things, and finding the right context for expressing that way of looking, that’s something else …. Every great or even every very good writer makes the world over according to his own specifications.”
“It’s akin to style, what I’m talking about, but it isn’t style alone. It is the writer’s particular and unmistakable signature on everything he writes. It is his world and no other. This is one of the things that distinguishes one writer from another. Not talent. There’s plenty of that around. But a writer who has some special way of looking at tihngs and who gives artistic expression to that way of looking: that writer may be around for a time.”
“If the words are heavy with the writer’s own unbridled emotions, or if they are imprecise and inaccurate for some other reason — if the words are in any way blurred — the reader’s eyes will slide right over them and nothing will be achieved. The reader’s own artistic sense will simply not be engaged. Henry James called this sort of hapless writing ‘weak specifications’.”
got milk?
And so i’ve read that MILK helps gain muscle and lose fat after after exercise. “Lose fat”. For a 110 pounder, that article is an eye catcher. But I also heard someone said before that milk are only suitable for babies due to a certain milk substance that could no longer be digested by adults. Poor thing is that i could no longer find the basis of it, and so I googled it up. So here’s what I found:
“Most humans lose the ability to fully digest milk after childhood (that is, they become lactose intolerant). The sugar lactose is found only in milk, forsythia flowers, and a few tropical shrubs. The enzyme needed to digest lactose, lactase, reaches its highest levels in the small intestines after birth and then begins a slow decline unless milk is consumed regularly.“
FYI:
Lactose Intolerance
Lactose is a type of carbohydrate or sugar that naturally occurs in milk from any mammal, including humans. Normally, an enzyme in the small intestine called lactase breaks down lactose so it can be absorbed into the bloodstream. Some people don’t produce enough lactase so undigested lactose is broken up by the bacteria in the large intestine causing gas, bloating, pain and diarrhoea. This condition is called ‘lactose intolerance’.

easily distracted
it’s been a while that i haven’t put anything here, and so i thought i told my self to just put everything in multiply instead. well, what can i say? women.
today was a movie day. i think ive watched 3 or 4 movies today, errands in between and a whole lot of thinking. i have a lot of things to buy and settle and with all bravery, i wrote them all down as if i have all the money to buy and accomplish them. well atleast i have my plans already in my mind.
i love the company of gays, but now, they’re the most annoying set of people known to me, considering that they hinder my deep thoughts to flow at a constant rate because they’re too freaking drunk and noisy and that i can hear them more than i can hear my ipod songs.
so now i lost the momentum of writing a heartfelt piece. This then turns out to be a post of remorse. i lost my writing appetite. i think i’ll just read the book i’ve been starting to read since forever.
